Nearly 6.6 million children die each year due to preventable and treatable causes, including 1 million babies who die on the day they are born. What’s more, malnutrition contributes to the deaths of children and a lifetime of poor health. More than 150 million children in developing countries are malnourished.
According to the World Bank:
- Nigeria is the country with the 3rd highest absolute number of children who are stunted.2
- 41% of children under the age of five are stunted, 23% are underweight, and 14% are wasted.2
- 14% of infants are born with a low birth weight.
That’s why we are committed to providing health and nutrition programs that keep children alive and ensure they grow up healthy.
CWIDI works to improve health and nutrition of mothers, newborn babies and children, with special attention to poor and vulnerable communities. We work in hard-to-reach and impoverished communities..
The programme aims to conduct research on maternal and child health, Family planning, Gender based violence, Gender equality, infectious diseases and other ill health issues affecting women.
