Finding Her Voice – Shom’s Transformation
At Abagena Camp, 17-year-old Shom once hid at the back of gatherings, paralyzed by shyness. When CWIDI facilitators invited her to a role play during training, she tried to avoid it — until her peers started clapping and cheering her on. “It felt like a veil was lifted from my face,” she recalled. “At the end of my presentation, all my fears and shyness disappeared.”
That moment marked a turning point. Shom realized that making mistakes doesn’t mean failure — it means learning. “Never dim your light, let it shine,” she says now, a phrase that has become her personal motto.
Today, Shom participates actively in discussions, mentors other girls, and serves as a voice of encouragement in her camp. Her transformation shows the power of supportive environments — where laughter, teamwork, and compassion help girls shed fear and embrace confidence.
